Some Tango Terminology

Sandwiches - 'Mordida'
One dancers foot is trapped or 'sandwiched' between their partner's feet. They are often fun to watch and to experiment with, as they can also have plenty of different elements added to them. Performed badly however, and not executed with the whole body or in rhythm, they can stop the dance

Leg-wraps
A move in which the woman wraps the lower half of her leg around the man's. Movement is also them permitted, normally the woman will slide her leg up and down the man's.

Hooks - 'Ganchos'
A Gancho is a signature move in which the man blocks the path of the lady's backward Ocho with his leg. She then flicks her foot back from the knee to hook onto the man's leg. They can be done in a forward or backward direction. The working leg needs to be relaxed, the movement finished in a full thigh contact. They can look exciting and powerful, can be brisk or slow, with fully released or slightly more confined energy.

Stops - 'Paradas'
Paradas are simply stops that are indicated by the torso, and then finished with the man's foot touching the woman's foot during a stopping action. They can then lead to a change of direction, or a Sandwich.
