Tango In Gloucester

The look of Argentino Tango

Most of the activity happens from the waist down - and is characterised by kicks and flicks which are sometimes slow and deliberate, and at other times having a whiplash effect.

There should be salacious interlacing of legs and bodies. 'Leg wraps' are an example of this - where the woman hooks her leg around the man's. The dance should also feature lots of leans or 'poses' that should look elegant but dramatic - they can be to the front or to the side. Lunges, forward or to the side with one leg bent in front, are also often used - especially for dramatic ending to routines.

There must be good extension through the legs and the feet must appear to 'caress' the floor. This will come naturally if couples perform the Tango walk or 'La Caminata' properly (see next section for details). Couples should strike sensual curves that are created by the dancer's continuous revolution around each other. Extended lines should be elegant and natural.

The Argentine Tango follows the traditional line of dance, moving around the dance floor in a counter-clockwise direction.
