Tango In Gloucester

The look of Argentino Tango

The top part of the dancer's bodies should remain very calm, in touch with the emotion, whilst the lower part can be very active and moving. Clever choreography is very much part of the dance. Everything needs to be expertly lead, and expertly followed. A great deal should be put into the personal expression and style of the dance. The performance really depends on the performers, and we should be able to see a bit of your character in your routine.

Routines should appear smooth - the dance is much smoother than the Ballroom style. Couples should look as if they're gliding through water.

The Argentine Tango is also more sensual and more intimate than the Ballroom tango. The couple's upper bodies should remain close together and lower bodies apart. Quite often the lady will even rest her head on the man's chest, or their faces will be very nearly touching. However, it is contact between a couples chests that is most important - the idea is that two people dance as one, by sharing one axis of movement.

The hold of the Argentine Tango is also very different to that of its Ballroom counterpart. It should remain much more organic - it should look like a dynamic and stylised version of a normal human embrace.

The interplay between the partners is dictated by the music, the dancers should be dancing to something in the music - you should be able to see the melody expressed through their movement.
